The MTN Marathon is organized by MTN Uganda and takes place once every year. The competition involves athletes from allover East and Central Africa with most of them coming from Uganda and Kenya.
On Friday the 22nd November 2019, Stabex team departed from their training camps in Kapchorwa-Uganda and Eldoret-Kenya. The athletes from Kapchorwa arrived at Stabex Headquarters Kampala at around 5pm while their Kenyans counterpart arrived at 12 mid night.
On Saturday 23rd Ken Rono an official from Kenyan Embassy in Uganda presented them with a flag and tickets ready to represent the company at all scheduled event. After flagging off, the athletes had a light moment with Stabex Management expressing their heart of winning. Having spent the whole day at the Headquarters, the athletes later had dinner with Company Sales Manager, Mr. Boniface Kipchirchir before departing for their Hotel to rest ready for the MTN Marathon day.
On Sunday November 24th 2019, Stabex International sponsored 20 athletes both male and female to participate in the 2019 MTN Kampala Marathon which was held at Kololo ground.
After the run the athletes shared opinions, thoughts, and suggestions for future consideration. Ms. Sheila Jepkosgei from Kenya who participated in the 42km race suffered a setback after an injury on her way to the finish line just after crossing the 40km mark. According to her, the change of weather and lack of water at the water points contributed to the setback.
Mr. Boniface Kipchirchir thanked the athletes for their efforts in participating in the race and emerging with good results despite the short notice. He really thanked the head coach for organizing his team till the D day. He reiterated the company’s effort in improving the future events earlier enough.
