Role Overview
We are seeking to recruit a qualified and experienced Legal Officer to join our Legal Department. The successful candidate will provide legal advisory services, manage contracts, support litigation and dispute resolution, ensure regulatory and data protection compliance, manage intellectual property, and support corporate governance across the Group in a highly regulated energy sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide timely legal opinions; conduct legal research; monitor regulatory developments and advise on risk mitigation, including under the Petroleum Act, Energy Act, EMCA, Competition Act, and Data Protection Act
- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage commercial agreements (fuel supply, dealership agreements, leases, procurement contracts, NDAs, MoUs, etc.) and maintain an effective contract repository
- Manage litigation, arbitrations, and disputes; liaise with external counsel; monitor case progress and legal costs
- Ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act, including ODPC registrations and renewals, DPIAs, data privacy advisory, and development of data protection policies
- Manage the Company’s intellectual property portfolio, including registration, protection, monitoring infringements, and IP-related agreements
- Conduct legal risk assessments, support internal and external audits, develop policies and SOPs, and assist with corporate governance requirements including Board support, statutory filings, and registers
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from a recognized institution
- Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law
- Admitted Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a valid Practicing Certificate
- Minimum of three (3) years post-admission experience in contracts, litigation, regulatory compliance, and data protection
- Experience in the energy or petroleum sector will be an added advantage
